Bio

Dr. René Marie Price is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Environment and a member of the Institute of Environment, an FIU Preeminent Program. Her previous positions included Chair and Diversity Advocate of the Department of Earth and Environment.  She also served FIU as a member of the Faculty Senate, FIU’s 2025 Strategic Planning Committee, Faculty Mentor Program and the Sabbatical Leave Committee.

Dr. Price is a chemical hydrogeologist who has published extensively on groundwater and surface water interactions, ecohydrology, karst hydrogeology, seawater intrusion, and sea level rise.  She has conducted hydrological research in south Florida and the Everglades, and internationally in Spain, India, Mexico and Australia. Dr. Price is an investigator on a number of multidisciplinary research grants including the NSF funded Florida Coastal Everglades-Long Term Ecological Research Program and the NSF Center of Research Excellence in Science and Technology-Center for Aquatic Chemistry and the Environment.  She is also the principal investigator of the Scholarships for a Future Generation of Geoscientists, an NSF S-STEM Program. She serves as science advisor on several Everglades Restoration science advisory boards including the National Academy of Sciences, National Research Council, Water Science and Technology Board as well as a reviewer on several NSF panels.
